Tiermax Industrial Equipment

Drum blender

The homogeneous blending of solid matters is not always easy. Every day the chemical and pharmaceutical industries manufacture products consisting of various components (blends). Absolutely reliable machines are here required for an extremely gentle blending. Tiermax drum blenders provide significant advantages: unproblematic cleaning, exchangeable blending containers, and many more.

Drum blenders are used in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries to blend and pre-blend bulk materials. They are also ideal for hardly free-flowing powders and granules. The MIXOMAT drum blender program is modularly designed and includes blenders for all types of container sizes and applications including use in cleanrooms. Our drum blenders are convincing in their simplicity, extreme longevity, high energy efficiency, and easy handling. The Swiss-made drum blenders are manufactured according to the latest standards and FDA directives.

MIXOMAT mini drum blenders:

The smallest blender, the MIXOMAT mini drum blender is ideal for blending small quantity batches or carrying out on-demand blending using containers of 0.2 to 2 liter capacities to process bulk materials of 2 kg/l maximum specific weight. This blender is fitted with the same characteristics as the large-sized drum blenders and can be directly used on-site or in a laboratory environment.

The MIXOMAT A blender has been specially designed to be used in laboratories with containers of 3 to 25 liters. A mobile version including a base frame, or a table-mounted model is available. As an option, this laboratory blender may be supplied with single- or double-sided execution.

MIXOMAT B drum blenders:

The MIXOMAT B drum blender, the standard version, is used with containers of 30 to 400 litres and suits for the following applications: blending, homogenizing, inking, blending sedimented liquid, dissolving solid matters in liquids, etc. As an option, a mobile one- or double-sided version of this blender with shaft ends on both sides and an ATEX version for zones 2/22 or 1/21 are also available.

MIXOMAT C drum blenders:

The electrically tilting MIXOMAT C drum turner is available for container sizes of 100 to 400 litres. At the time, its maximum working load is 400 kg. The economic version of this blender, the MIXOMAT C-SE, is however not suitable for cleanroom applications. The high-end MIXOMAT C-HE is a drum turner for the highest requirements with tiltable, sealed shaft and closed housing is good for cleanroom applications. Due to its easy handling and high-quality blending capacity, the MIXOMAT C-HE is used to blend powdery products (premixes).

The product wetted parts simply consist of a blending container, its cover and, if necessary, a baffle. The blending drums are also interchangeable. In many applications they require no cleaning after each blending operation when using one drum per product. The drum turner is controlled by a PLC. Starting and stop-ping the blending process, lifting and lowering the drum as well as setting the blending time and the speed of the drum can easily be done by means of the easy-to-use touchscreen. Up to 18 recipes can be programmed and later selected with their blending time and rotational speeds for the drum.

Frequently Asked Questions

A drum blender is a batch mixing machine that rotates a sealed drum or container to gently blend powders, granules, and other bulk materials. The tumbling action provides a homogeneous mixture while minimizing product degradation.

Drum blenders are widely used in the food, pharmaceutical, chemical, cosmetics, plastics, and nutraceutical industries for blending dry powders, granules, and other bulk solids.

Drum blenders are suitable for powders, granules, pellets, flakes, and, in some applications, liquids or liquid additions. They provide gentle and uniform mixing for both free-flowing and sensitive materials.

Drum blenders are available for a wide range of container sizes, from laboratory-scale drums to industrial drums with capacities up to 400 L and working loads up to 400 kg. Custom drum sizes and holder systems are also available.

Yes. Drum blenders can be customized with different drum holders, single- or double-sided configurations, variable-speed drives, PLC controls, recipe management, and ATEX-certified designs for hazardous environments.

Yes. Drum blenders can be manufactured in stainless steel with hygienic finishes for pharmaceutical, food, and cosmetic applications. They are designed for easy cleaning and compliance with GMP requirements.

The required blending time depends on the material properties, batch size, and desired level of homogeneity. Process trials are typically recommended to determine the optimum blending time for each application.

A drum blender offers gentle mixing, excellent blend uniformity, low maintenance, easy cleaning, dust-free operation with sealed drums, and the ability to mix directly in the process container, reducing material handling and the risk of cross-contamination.
