Thermoplastic Elastomer (TPE)

Turnkey Solution for Processing of TPEs

Thermoplastic elastomers (TPE), also known as thermoplastic rubbers, are copolymers or compounds that deliver thermoplastic and elastomeric properties. TPEs exhibit thermoplastic characteristics above their melt temperatures, which allow them to be shaped into fabricated articles. When used within their design temperature ranges, TPEs show elastomeric behaviour without cross-linking during fabrication. In addition, this process is reversible, meaning that products can be reprocessed and remoulded.

In short, TPEs are a family of rubber like materials that combine the characteristics of rubber with the recyclability and processing advantages of plastics.

Tiermax twin screw compounding systems can be used for the processing of TPEs. We offer a wide range of extruders, feeders, pneumatic conveying systems and equipment for handling and processing of both elastomers and additives.

Key Benefits of Thermoplastic Elastomers (TPEs)

  • Extrudable, Injection moldable, thermoformable or blow moldable processing capabilities
  • Shorter molding cycles
  • Available as concentrates for compounding, if desired
  • Re-molding opportunities without chemical change
  • Less material usage during processing
  • Excellent colorability
  • Can be overmolded onto polypropylene and many other specialty polymers
  • Highly impact resistant at very low temperatures
  • Heat sealability
  • Resistant to most chemicals and cleaners
